Eilidh Briggs (Kilmacolm) and Rachael Watton (Mortonhall), who both play off scratch, head a strong entry for the Scottish Girls' Championship at Eyemouth Golf Club from July 13 - 17. It is a first National Championship for the Borders Club and 64 girls - 43 boasting single figure handicaps - will be aiming to lift the trophy won by Ailsa Bain (Peebles) last year. 10th green at Eyemouth - photograph courtesy of Eyemouth Golf Club
Eilidh and Rachael are both members of the Scottish Ladies' Golfing Association's Performance B squad and they are joined in the line-up by three of their colleagues - Alyson McKechin (Elderslie), Lesley Atkins (Gullane) and Gabrielle MacDonald (Craigielaw). The field also includes two sets of sisters - Natasha and Alexandra Qayum, from Ranfurly Castle and Alison and Catherine Goodwin from Glenbervie. The Championship consists of two rounds of strokeplay qualifying (July 13-14) with the top 32 advancing to the matchplay knock-out stage. The next 16 girls qualify for the Ansley Salver. The 18 hole final takes place on Saturday, July 17 at 9.00am.
Update on Eyemouth Golf Club Fire - No impact on Girls' Championship
You may have heard that there was a fire in the Greenkeepers sheds at Eyemouth Golf Club in the early hours of Wednesday morning (7 July). The club has assured us that the Scottish Girls' (Close) Championship will go ahead as planned. The only impact is that any additional practice rounds booked for Sunday 11 July have been cancelled as the Golf Course will now be closed on this day to allow them to prepare for the Championship. The official practice round on Monday 12 July and the Championship schedule will be unaffected. |
