Whyte and Franssen Claim Winter Series Final Success
Cameron Franssen and Lauren Whyte took the honours as the Scottish Golf Academy Winter Series Final was played out in glorious conditions on the Jubilee Course, St Andrews on Sunday 25 March. After regional qualifying over the winter, 11 girls and 21 boys played 18 hole stroke play format for the right to be champion.
Local girl Whyte of St Regulus took the girls title, taking full advantage of the fine weather to fire the only under par round of the day, an excellent one-under-par 73.
Whyte won by four shots from Jessica Meek of Carnoustie Ladies, with Connie Jaffrey (Troon Ladies) third on 79.
Franssen, from Inverness Golf Club, claimed victory in the boys’ event with a one-over-par 73, defeating Dalmahoy player Callum Cochrane by a stroke. Cameron Kirkwood was third after a 75.
Kevin Cademy-Taylor, Scottish Golf Performance Development Manager, said: "It was a fantastic finale to the newly-structured Winter Series Events. Congratulations to all those players who qualified. "As we continually improve our programmes, this event provides a great platform to the competitive season ahead. We look forward to hosting the event again next year."
Kevin would like to thank TaylorMade for sponsoring the prizes and the St Andrews Links Trust for their hospitality on the day. A special thanks to James White, the reigning Men’s Order of Merit Winner, for giving up his time on a Sunday to present the boys’ prizes.
