Strathmore Golf Centre, a picturesque parkland course near Alyth, is known as Scotland’s friendly club and it is delighted to be staging the SLGA”s Under-16 Open Strokeplay Championship for a third successive year.

“We’ve had really good feedback over the past couple of seasons and it’s great that there has been a record entry this year,” said David Norman, Strathmore’s Director of Operations. “The course is a good test for the girls. Two years ago, England’s Emily Taylor won the title and set a course record of six under par.” Strathmore has a thriving junior section, and the Centre can be very proud that 11-year-old Kirsty Brodie, who plays off 11, is good enough to be among this year’s strong line-up. With entries from Scotland, England, Ireland, Wales and Italy, the cut line was a 14 handicap to reduce the field to the maximum 102. Kirsty, who started playing when she was four, has already made her golfing mark. She has competed in the Wee Wonders Championship in North Carolina in America and won last season’s Highland Spring Junior Masters at Gleneagles. “We encourage all our junior players and hosting the National under-16 event is a good way to bring the attention to girls golf,” added Norman. Looking ahead to the new season, he was also upbeat. “Bookings are up on this time last year, which is always a good sign,” he said. The Championship will be held at Strathmore Golf Centre from 12 - 13 April.
